Sir, – One of the most startling representations of the acceptance of inequality in our society are school uniforms. I have always been amazed at the Dublin schoolgirls heading out to school each day in winter in their skirts and knee-socks.
How is it possible that in modern society parents accept this archaic rule? If schools were still asking male students to wear short trousers, would this also be still accepted in 2015?
We live in a cold country. It was snowing recently on my way to work and still I passed girl after girl shuffling off to school with their raw knees exposed to the freezing temperatures.
It is quite frankly ridiculous and should be a cause of embarrassment to us as a society. – Yours, etc,
