Sir, – While not perfect, school league tables do not claim to be anything other than a statistical analysis of college place attainment in Ireland. There are many other aspects to consider when choosing a school such as its ethos, sports facilities, after school activities, attendance at non-Irish universities, etc. There is nothing to stop schools from blowing their own trumpets with regard to these other criteria and I admire those that do. Parents and students who wish to consider issues other than league tables are free to do so. Those who wish to utilise league tables as part of their decision-making process should also be free to do so. Let’s stop shooting the messenger. – Yours, etc,
TOM NEVILLE,
