Madam, - The claim by Prof Bruce Hood that the human brain is programmed to believe in the supernatural (The Irish Times, September 5oh) is actually a reprise of the Bible message attesting that our relationship with the Lord is written on our hearts.
St Augustine wrote along those lines: "Our hearts are made for you, Do Lord, and they will never rest until they rest in you".
Had the ancient writers known what Prof Hood knows about the genome, they would most likely have used terminology similar to his in explaining the working together of the spiritual and the material. - Yours, etc,
