Sir, - Your leader writer criticises the Minister for failing to make the distinction between science and technology (Irish Times October 30th). Yet no less a scientist than Albert Einstein refused to recognise any significant difference between pure and applied science. To him, the only important distinction was between good and bad science!

In view of the inadequate contribution to a scientific culture by The Irish Times over many years, it is ironic, to say the least, that you should now take to task all and sundry for failing to do the same. - Yours, etc.,
