Sir, - I write in response to Kevin Myers's article of January 15th on Scientology.
To suggest that Goldie Hawn, Dustin Hoffman et al are expressing their views on what's happening in Germany with regard to Scientology shows that he is totally ignorant of the true facts. German Scientologists are being treated in exactly the same way that Jews were in the early 1930s. They are not allowed to send their children to certain schools. They are not permitted to work in certain government organisations. The German media is constantly pumping out anti Scientology propaganda. Businesses owned by Scientologists have been vandalised. Scientologists received anonymous hate mail. Scientologists are not allowed to open accounts with certain banks. Artists known to be Scientologists have even been banned from performing their work.
This is exactly what was happening to the Jews in the early 1930s whether you like it or not and the source of this hate campaign is undeniably the German government. This is not democratic. Without question, this is fascism. I notice he doesn't afford us the luxury of any specifics on this matter. He just says that the historical comparison is "stupid" but, just like the German government, he is not denying that these things are actually occurring.
If Kevin had spoken with the press office of the Church of Scientology, they could have put him in touch with thousands of German Scientologists who would have told him exactly how they have been discriminated against because of their religion. In fact, instances of discrimination against Scientologists have been brought before the United Nations, the Helsinki Commission on Human Rights and the United States State Department. All have issued official reports on violations of human rights against Scientologists in Germany.
Could I kindly suggest that Kevin does some research before writing about my religion again? Yours, etc.,
