Sir, - One has TO question the basic premise of any group which dubs itself "Save Our Seatrout", yet seems more concerned with saving its battered reputation by screaming ever louder about one issue - sea lice.

Where, for instance, are Professor Shaw's letters of condemnation about the disastrous fish kill on the Dodder last weekend? Why haven't we seen him pour forth press releases on the extremely serious pollution problems uncovered recently in our beautiful western lakes? How can he expect his one man campaign to be taken seriously when the anglers on the river Feale, 150 miles from the nearest salmon farm, have given up trying to catch sea trout this year in total frustration at the failure of the sea trout run on the north Kerry river?

In this context, can we please have a more reasoned and rational contribution from SOS? Failing this, at the very least they should come clean with the public on their real agenda. -Yours, etc.,
