Sir, – When the issue of Seanad reform is discussed, a frequent criticism of the idea of a directly elected Seanad is that it would be little more than a second Dáil.
The true virtue of bicameral legislatures is not that one chamber is markedly different from the other; rather, it is that each chamber serves as a check on the other. Political power should not be allowed to pool overmuch in one place. – Yours, etc,
