Madam, - A feature of Dublin and provincial housing estates this Christmas is a proliferation of garish, illuminated plastic Santas (big and small) abseiling up walls and gables, climbing over eaves, or standing on rooftops. These figures are usually part of a multi-coloured network of lights, neon sleighs, glowing reindeers, etc.
It strikes me that, apart from the threat to the innate power of the young imagination as a whole, these red-and-white clones could undermine in children the precious myth that there is only one, omnipotent Mr Claus! - Yours, etc.,
