Sir, - Last month, the US reporter Daniel Pearl was taken hostage in Pakistan. His captors made him "confess" to being a Jew, and cut his throat - on video, so that his family could watch. In your report of March 7th, "Al-Qaeda reinforcements join 'holy war' against Americans", Elaine Lafferty writes that eight US soldiers died - fair enough, it's a war - and that "it has been learned that one of the soldiers was captured by Al-Qaeda and executed with a shot to the head". Well, I'm waiting for the next round of indignant Geneva Convention letters... - Yours, etc.,
