Sir,– Senator Averil Power uses as her excuse for having 73,000 calendars printed at public expense that Dublin Bay North is one of the biggest constituencies in the country. That may be so, but Ms Power does not represent Dublin Bay North or indeed any other Dáil constituency, having been rejected by the electorate.
This whole Oireachtas printing business confers a significant electoral advantage to existing members of the Dáil or Seanad over those aspiring Dáil candidates who are neither.– Yours, etc,
BRIAN DAVISON,
Portmarnock,
Co Dublin.
Sir, – The next Dáil should ban this practice, and indeed all unnecessary mass mailings by Oireachtas members, and use the money saved to recruit more badly needed frontline health or teaching staff. – Yours, etc,
RACHEL CAVE,
Galway.
