Sir, As Irish Co-ordinator for Pilgrims Way `97, I have just sent 250 letters throughout the 32 counties to encourage people to participate in the Pilgrimage from Canterbury to Derry in June of next year. I have 50 places to fill, so I can supply information to anyone who requires it.

The sending of 250 letters is a major undertaking. I decided to leave all envelopes open, to save gumming the flaps. Then they had to be stamped. The prospect of licking such a quantity of stamps is enough to put anyone off. I decided to use the box of self adhesive stamps, to avoid distress and labour.

What a great idea these "peel and stick" 32p stamps are! Why will An Post not provide a similar box with 28p stamps With the Christmas catalogues now out, one cringes at the prospect of using all those 28p stamps. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a box where they would roll off the strip and stick to the envelope!

I'm reliably informed that there are no plans to introduce such a convenience. If a number of people were to write to An Post, maybe they'd have a change, of heart. I'm starting the ball rolling by rewriting this letter and sending it direct to the GPO. Yours etc The Rectory, Kells, Co. Meath.
