Sir, – The issues of water charges and septic tanks are inter-related. Before returning to rural Kerry four years ago I lived in rural Essex. There I chose to have a water meter and paid the modest charge for my very modest water usage.
I was not required to pay the normal sewage charge related to this water usage as I had my own registered septic tank, which I arranged to have emptied on an annual basis. I would hope that any planned Irish water charges would reflect sewage costs, which would be non-existent for those with their own registered septic tanks. – Yours, etc,
