A chara, – Congratulations to The Irish Times on its latest survey, which contributes to the ongoing debates around issues of sexuality and human development. However may I make a suggestion? In your editorial (July 1st) you state "the survey questions were compiled after consultation with psychologists about the issues they were seeing in their therapy sessions".
You also suggest that the questions were framed in a “neutral manner”. However all your questions were composed by three women and the analysis was conducted by two other women. Furthermore in Kate Holmquist’s very interesting three-page analysis, she quotes extensively from five female psychology/sex therapists with just one male contributor.
Given the literature available which demonstrates significant cognitive differences between male and female brains, that future analysis and discussion on important data such as this survey would be greatly improved by some gender balance.– Yours, etc,
