Madam, – The Government should not grant the Small Firms Association’s request for tax-payers’ support (“50% of SMEs to restructure within three months”, June 15th). Many small firms grew during the unsustainable boom years, mistakenly predicting a greater demand for their services. Now that the economy is realigning itself, these firms must adjust to reality.

Nothing could retard economic recovery more than taxing profit-making businesses to subsidise loss-making ones. The capital and labour these loss-making businesses are currently wasting must be released to contribute to the creation of sustainable growth and productive jobs. – Yours, etc,
