Madam, - Raymond Deane (August 16th), as befits an anti-Israel propagandist, never loses an opportunity to be critical of Israel or Israelis and always leaves out much more than he includes in his contributions to your columns.

In praising the recently reviewed book written by the arch left-wing Israeli post-Zionist historian Baruch Kimmerling, Mr Deane omits some salient facts.

When he writes about the attack led by Ariel Sharon in 1953, he omits to mention the reason for that attack: the constant "Fedayeen" infiltrations in the years between 1949 and 1953 across the Gaza-Israel border resulting in many deaths of innocent civilians - men, women and children.

Israel exercised great restraint for a number of years until the toll of death and destruction became unbearable.
