Sir, - The Minister of State for Agriculture, Mr Deenihan, is to be congratulated on his initiative in calling the recent two day Tralee conference on sheep scab. Because the conference was held during the lambing period the attendance of sheep farmers was low, nor was the press present.
Widespread discussion among experts resulted in the Minister declaring that he favoured a return to some form of compulsory scab control. Some UK opinion favoured having farmers directly responsible for their sheep's welfare.
As representatives of a group of OP victims we were appalled to hear Dr Bomann of Bayer, in answering a question as to the safety of SEBACIL sheep dip, declare that "it's so safe you could drink 10 buckets of it." We call on Bayer to withdraw this remark. - Yours, etc.,
