Sir, - I read with horror Kathryn Holmquist's report on Tesco's betrayal of the consumer's trust (The Irish Times, March 27th). My daily shop-in in my local Tesco store causes me such grief, aggravation, exhaustion and frustration that, when finally finished, I am in no condition, either physical or mental, to check my docket, let alone spot erroneous charges which may appear thereon.
Ms Holmquist's report has made it plain that from now on I'd better, or I may have yet another grievance to add to my ever increasing list, which already includes:
endless queues and shortage of staff at peak hours;
total disorganisation of these queues due to lack of supervision and poor layout of checkout and other areas;
absence of senior management;
poorly trained, presumably well-meaning but obviously discontented staff;
poor stock control/lack of consistency;
shortage of products other than own-brand;
shortage of small-sized products and packages (there are many singles and OAPs in our area).
Where shopping was once a pleasure, it has now become my worst daily chore and I dread it with all my heart.
Come back Quinnsworth - all is forgiven! Come in Sainsbury's, M&S, Asda or anyone else who feels able to fulfil the basic needs of a friendly community. - Yours, etc., Diana O'Donnell,
Raglan Lane, Dublin 4.
