Sir, - I am growing very tired of the poor state of the taxi service in Dublin. I live in the city centre and fortunately do not have to use taxis often. However, friends who come to visit find themselves either sleeping on my couch or trying to stay awake into the small hours waiting on a taxi or hackney to collect them from my home. Waits of two hours are common.
I am literally losing sleep over this. Perhaps an organised public boycott of the taxi service would shake it up a bit. I suggest a Saturday night. We could all stay in, get a video and bottle of wine and relax in our homes, while the city's taxi-drivers form the queues at the ranks instead of us. - Yours, etc.,
Shane O Mearain, Patrick Street, Dublin 8.
