Sir, – Minister for Justice Alan Shatter comments on the lengthy holidays judges take in the summer (Home News, May 13th). He should sort out his own house first. What about the lengthy break that politicians take from Dáil proceedings during the summer?
At present, far too much legislation is not properly debated in the Dáil and then subject to a guillotine because politicians want to go off on a lengthy holiday. TDs claim they are at work anyway during the summer. Thus is would be no great hardship for them to attend actual Dáil sessions in order to properly debate legislation, including inserting amendments which will improve it. – Yours, etc,
