CHRISTOPHER PRINGLE,
Sir, - The plague of twisted and reversed road signs seems to be gaining a firmer grip in rural areas. Why not replace the circular steel posts, which allow the signs to be swung round in every direction by the hooligan element, with square or rectangular posts? This would make swivelling the signs virtually impossible without using tools.
Any marginal extra cost would be offset by the goodwill generated among misdirected and frustrated tourists and natives alike. - Yours, etc.,
CHRISTOPHER PRINGLE, Glenview House, Monaghan.
