Sir, – On Tuesday, May 4th, in the Simplex crossword, the clue for 33 across was “shelf over a fireplace” and the answer given on Wednesday was “mantle”.
I would point out that this should have been “mantel” as mantle is a cloak-like garment and has nothing to do with a fireplace. – Is mise,
