Sir, - Perhaps the low poll in the Amsterdam Treaty referendum can be explained by a failure of the Brussels bureaucracy to address issues which really concern us all.
I and my fellow members of the Committee in Favour of Better Weather (CIFBEW) believe the time is right for a European Common Climate Policy. Surely the recent inclement weather is proof enough that it is high time the injustices of European weather were addressed, and climate imbalances between EU member states were corrected.
We at CIFBEW, under our slogan "A Fair Share of Fair Weather", propose that each European partner should be allocated an equal number of units of Single European Climate (SECs).
Certainly here in Dublin we could do with a bit more SEC, and why should we have to travel to Barcelona for our fair share of euro sun?
Move aside, the ecu; give us the single european climate. Now there's an issue that would get the voters out of their living rooms! - Yours, etc., John Hughes,
Clonskeagh, Dublin 14.
