Sinn Féin and the Tricolour

Madam, - I wish to support John A. Murphy (September 8th) concerning the Tricolour

Madam, - I wish to support John A. Murphy (September 8th) concerning the Tricolour. There is only one colour that matters to the nationalists of Sinn Féin old and new and it is green; "the greening of Fermanagh, the greening of Tyrone". Creativity is managed pluralism and conformity is mangled pluralism. What we have in Ireland masquerading as republicanism is compulsory conformity to a "green" identity.

A modern republic based on the sovereignty of the people is an open inclusive society that accommodates diversity. In a republic you are free to be different. An innovator looks on diversity as positive and a nationalist looks on diversity as poison. - Yours, etc.,
