Sir, – Chris O'Dell (September 5th) describes an unlikely confluence of events that would have to occur for any tourists to visit Kerry after having seen the new Star Wars movie.
I would agree that if we were relying on viewers hanging around long enough to see a footnote at the end of the credits that this would be unlikely.
However, I suspect that this is not how most viewers discovered that Game of Thrones was filmed in Northern Ireland, for example. The tourism boost from that show using locations in Northern Ireland is expected to generate in excess of £500 million for the local economy.
Let’s assume that Fáilte Ireland has the wherewithal to spread the word through other means. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Whatever the merits or otherwise of filming on Skellig Michael, it’s comforting to know Disney Lucasfilm may not have to venture far to source material for their next series of movies. We in Ireland remain blessed with many wonderful, colourful, implausible stories, ripe for adaptation. They feature many fantastic characters, unbelievable plot twists, the necessary elements of banishment, exile, vindication and redemption, not to mention conclusions guaranteed to ensure many lucrative sequels.
However, lest our Hollywood friends miss out, I’d like to pitch the following ideas for their upcoming franchises – evidence given to the Oireachtas banking inquiry, and the GAA disciplinary process. – Yours, etc,
JA BROSNAN,
