HELENA DRNOV'EK ZORKO,
Madam, - I have read with great interest your editorial "NATO's enlarged role in Europe" last Saturday. As a matter of fact and clarity I wish to add that since the end of the Cold War, Slovenia has so far been the only invitee to NATO that was never a member of the Warsaw Treaty. (Former Yugoslavia, of which Slovenia was a part in the period 1945-1990, was never a member of the Warsaw Treaty.) It therefore bears no historical burden of this organisation, to which you refer in your article.Without doubt this was an additional argument in the choice of Slovenia as the venue of the Bush-Putin summit in 2001. - Yours, etc.,
HELENA DRNOV'EK ZORKO, Ambassador of Slovenia, Morrison Chambers, 32 Nassau St, Dublin 2.
