Sir, – Perhaps now that matters are returning to a degree of normality, those who are in charge of the traffic lights in Dublin could reverse the changes made to the timings of the lights during the pandemic.
I understand that the time allowed at pedestrian crossings was reduced so as to prevent crowds gathering and increasing the risk of infection.
Some now turn red with no provocation at all. This has the effect of reducing the time at filters – it is my experience that at many junctions only two or three cars are allowed through, less if there’s a “dozy” at the wheel.
It is also impossible to have a clear run through several sets of lights on a main road, with many frequently turning red after a modest number of cars are allowed through.
This gives rise to increased pollution, wear on the car and general aggravation.
– Yours, etc,
ROBERT TOWERS,
Monkstown,
Co Dublin.
