Sir, - Your front page of January 14th portrayed our Taoiseach smiling broadly behind the bars of the cell in the Robben Island prison where the former South African President, Nelson Mandela, served a 27-year sentence.
Although I love to see a happy Taoiseach, I thought this photograph was inappropriate. Mandela while in prison became a symbol of unity for the worldwide anti-apartheid movement. He will be forever remembered as one who helped break the apartheid system - possibly one of the so-called Western world's most shameful legacies. - Yours, etc.,
Brenda Morgan, Asgard Park, Howth, Co Dublin.
