Sir, Father John Colman, CSSp, and his colleagues of the Catholic Mission Station at Lunda Norte, Angola, who listened to the RTE Radio Sport coverage of the Republic of Ireland v Holland soccer match on shortwave (Irish Times, December 20th), wondered if reception reached farther south than Angola. We used four BBC World Service frequencies to transmit the coverage, and have received reports of clear reception from several parts of the world. Most southerly report so far is from Auckland, New Zealand.
We are also getting favourable reception reports from many countries of the daily shortwave transmission of our main evening bulletin on 12.160 MHz at 1930 UTC/GMT, with a repeat on 5.065 MHz at 1000 UTC/GMT. Yours, etc.,
Director of Broadcasting Developments, RTE, Dublin 4.
