MARK CLEARY,
Sir, - I would like to bring your attention two omissions/ inaccuracies in your April 24th editions.
Firstly, Christine Newman's article on the National Women's Council election leaflet omits the fact that of five candidates standing nationally for the Socialist Party in the upcoming general election, 40 per cent of these are women.
The candidates are Councillor Clare Daly who will be contesting Dublin North and Lisa Maher who will be contesting Dublin South. Thus proportionally, it is the Socialist Party, with a proud tradition of fighting on women's rights issues which is fielding the most gender-balanced slate.
Secondly, Vincent Browne singles out the performance of a particular representative as follows: "In terms of the substance of his contributions, his commitment and work rate there may not be a more impressive TD in the Dáil." While we would wholeheartedly concur with Mr Browne, the Socialist Party TD for Dublin West is Joe Higgins, not Jim Higgins. - Yours, etc.,
MARK CLEARY, Socialist Party Dublin South, Dundrum, Dublin 16.
