Sir,  – Let’s get real. Does anyone in Ireland think for a minute the troika and especially the ECB would have even considered Ireland’s desperate situation if it were not for Spain and Italy experiencing serious difficulties which could, because of their size,bring the whole European financial structure crashing down around our ears (Breaking News, June 29th?

In the overall European context, as a relatively small open peripheral economy, we have little or no clout. For the Taoiseach to suggest that what happened early Friday morning, at the meeting of the heads of governments, was a seismic change for Ireland, when, basically,we were being thrown a few “crumbs”, is an insult to our intelligence. – Yours, etc,
