Sir, - Amid all the negative comments about the QBCs, I would like to highlight one positive factor. Gardai are vigorously policing bus lanes to keep out those drivers who deem themselves so important that they should be able to use the lanes as their own personal queue-jumpers. The same cars, same types, each morning and evening, who feel they should not have to queue with the rest of us, who appear to be sneering as they race up the inside lane. I am sure that the aggression directed at those queue-jumpers has now changed to serenity and satisfaction among many commuters each time a culprit is hunted down by the motorcycle patrols. One should be allowed to compliment each success by hooting approval, but that would probably elicit the wrong reaction.
Long may the new vigilance last. Unfortunately, as with so many of our bad driving habits, complacency in the first instance prompted the practice to become commonplace. - Yours etc.,
