Madam, - I sympathise greatly with the families and friends of the ill-fated space shuttle Columbia.
Perhaps their sacrifice will not have been in vain if it brings us closer to a realisation that the missions of discovery should be closer to home, and that the trillions of dollars spent thus far could have eliminated world poverty, and most likely the majority of health and environmental afflictions.
When we achieve these goals - if goals they be - we may decide that we could more appropriately lift our heads, and our eyes, to the stars. - Yours, etc.,
