Speaking American

Madam, - May I be afforded space to appeal for a ban on the expression "It's a no-brainer"

Madam, - May I be afforded space to appeal for a ban on the expression "It's a no-brainer". Hearing the usually eloquent Áine Lawlor use it on Morning Irelandthis week made me realise how pervasive this objectionable phrase has become.

I object to it partly because it is an Americanism (which admittedly is not always a bad thing), but more seriously because of the discomfort, or worse, it must cause to those with experience of anencephaly; and last, but not least, because of the sheer, blatant inelegance of the expression. Let's drop it.
