Madam, - Where are all the so-called beleaguered southern Protestants and who are they? Speaking from my experience of living in Waterford, I am at a loss to explain the so-called "marginalisation of southern Protestants" (Ian Cox, October 26th) and even wonder if this is a contemporary issue.
I would like to "own up" that being Protestant has never had a negative impact on my experience of life and indeed is mostly irrelevant as a distinguishing characteristic. The Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Quaker, Muslim and Catholic citizens in Waterford, along with those with no religion, contribute to a diverse community where other, much more relevant and pressing issues are what set us apart - such as whether Fraher Field, Dungarvan or Walsh Park, Waterford City should be the home of hurling in Waterford. - Yours, etc,
CAROLINE SENIOR, Glenmore, Waterford.
Madam, - I grew up, "a Southern Protestant", in Co Westmeath. My father ran a successful business and was held in considerable esteem by his community, a community in which both my parents played a full part.
We never felt, nor were we ever, marginalised. - Yours, etc,
LESLEY WISHART (née Cox), Ballaghmore Road, Portballintrae, Co Antrim.
