Sir, - Mr Richard Roche (February 27th) is very certain in his views on Scullabogue, an event which took place just two hundred years ago, as well as being very dismissive of Thomas Pakenham's sources on Scullabogue and by implication, his very fine history on 1798, The Year of Liberty.
He cannot say conclusively that he is right, anymore than I can say with total certainly that I am right. You name your source, quote it if necessary and leave it at that. Mr Roche seems to be dismissing out of hand certain historical sources and moves on to very shaky ground by attempting to prove the unproveable. - Yours, etc.,
