Sir, - It strikes me that whoever is responsible for the placing of speed ramps on bus routes must never use the bus as a means of getting about. To the motorist they are indeed a deterrent to excessive speed, but to the bus user a serious danger. If one is unfortunate enough to be attempting to stand up or in the process of using the stairs on the bus when it encounters a speed ramp, then watch out.
At best it's most uncomfortable, at worst lethal. One is quite likely to end up with flailing arms trying to grab something to regain balance - or else in a heap on the floor.
I would call on the relevant authorities to immediately remove these "inverted potholes" from bus routes and allow passengers to get to and from their seats without this additional hazard. - Yours, etc.,
David Reddy, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
