Spraying roadsides with pesticide

Sir, – The decline in the bee population has been well publicised, along with the ramifications for other species. At this time of year, birds are hugely dependent on insects to feed their young. It doesn’t enhance the appearance of any park, roadside or streetscape to see a barren yellow wilderness once the weedkiller has been sprayed.

It can be hard going on wildlife at the moment. It could be a great boon if councils did not lay waste to verges and roadsides. – Yours, etc,

ROISIN SHEERIN,
