Sir, – Aren’t we a wonderfully dignified and principled country? Our governments have signed away our sovereignty, saddled our country with the astronomical debts of a few, and increased charges and taxes while reducing services, and all with barely a murmur of discontent.

And who have we saved our outrage and indignation for? That’s right, Starbucks Ireland, for their ill-advised “proud to be British” tweet (Breaking News, June 5th). The lesson here is you can bring the country to its knees but never, ever call us British! – Yours, etc,
