Madam, – Reading the article “State still in denial over Magdalene scandal” by Fintan O’Toole (Opinion, June 15th) made me rethink my institutionalised childhood.
I have never forgiven my mother for abandoning me and, worse still, never acknowledging me thereafter. However, blood is blood, and as a result of the article, I belatedly thank God that she absconded to Liverpool from the nursing home she was in, therefore escaping from the clutches of the nuns who ran the Magdalene laundries. – Yours, etc,
