Madam, - I am saddened that your quality newspaper condones the use of the words "state-of-the-art" as descriptive of a proposed new Dáil chamber (front-page report, The Irish Times, November 24th).
These four conjoined words, written or spoken, constitute neither sentence nor unit of meaning thereof, and defy parsing.
Their increasing usage is, I suggest, symptomatic of a general carelessness in the use of language today.
Could we please lose them? - Yours, etc,
