Stating facts and ‘cancel culture’

Sir, – Emer McLysaght states that "people usually get 'cancelled' because they say or do something that exists somewhere on the spectrum between hateful and insensitive" (Magazine, March 5th).

In fact, we are surrounded by numerous examples of people being cancelled or silenced simply for stating facts.

From journalists in Russia to philosophers in universities, people are losing their reputations and livelihoods simply for understanding that when it comes to truth and lies, there is no spectrum. – Yours, etc,
