Sir, - In response to Liam O Geibheannaigh (July 21st), I should like to point out that were we to erect a statue of Christ in O'Connell Street, it would be akin to what the Orange Order attempts to do in Drumcree each year when they march down the Garvaghy Road.
The imposition of such an overwhelming statement of majority on even a tiny minority of the population is an outdated and an amoral concept. The erection of such a statue in O'Connell Street is simply not appropriate in a country which has long since abandoned the close links between church and state. - Yours, etc.,
