Sir, – Stephen Donnelly, the man who preached and pontificated from the moral high ground about the State’s financial and fiscal issues during the crisis, has now joined Fianna Fáil. Satire is well and truly dead. But did we need this nail in its coffin? – Yours, etc,
PAUL McCARRICK,
Galway.
Sir, – Stephen Donnelly, elected to the Dáil as joint leader of the Social Democrats in 2016, and opposed to the bank bailout, has now joined the centre-right Fianna Fáil, which not only supported the taxpayer funding of the banking sector’s private debt but whose policies also contributed hugely to the financial crash in the first place.
Clearly the Wicklow and Carlow voters who elected Stephen Donnelly never intended to vote for Fianna Fáil and its policies.
If Stephen Donnelly has any integrity, he will resign his Dáil seat and run again as a Fianna Fáil candidate in the resulting byelection. – Yours, etc,
DONAL McGRATH,
Greystones,
Co Wicklow.
