Sir, - A Wellsian space ship has landed. That is my reaction to "an impression of how the Stillorgan Shopping Centre might look if the planning permission granted by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is not overturned after appeal" (The Irish Times, November 11th).
Among the carrots offered by the developers is "a new library in the centre". While this would be a blessing to my 76-year-old legs, it comes at a time when the said council, in considering the imposition of a £10 registration fee on members, is endangering the future of the present library, which against all the odds is striving laudably to maintain the library service in this area and to persuade the people of Stillorgan that culture and the arts are not confined to a TV screen. - Yours, etc., Arthur Bateman,
Allen Park Road, Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
