Madam – On the foot of David Dillon’s article (Opinion, May 28th) I am forced to ask him kindly to stop bashing “the media” as they are not all “bashing the banks”.

Can we be clear, for the record, that regulation of the financial sector failed abysmally in Ireland and elsewhere, with the result that the “banks” are now being bailed out by the Government because they bashed out too many loans. Hundreds, if not thousands, have seen their savings depleted in bank share values, leaving many people in Ireland seeing their life’s work completely lost.

When Mr Dillon cares to return to Planet Ireland he might revisit the reality of why we are in the mess we are in. If I am not mistaken the banks played a major role in getting us here. – Yours, etc,
