Sir, – I have absolutely no objection to people illuminating every bush and tree, or placing all kinds of lighted objects on their lawns, etc.
However, when all of this excess lighting causes interruption to supply, flickering lights and wondering if there will in fact be enough power to cover essentials such as heating and cooking over the festive period, the external Christmas lights lose their appeal.
With so many people working from home now, there is extra strain on the electricity supply.
We are also being asked daily to conserve our use of electricity and to have an intelligent approach to our life on this planet.
We have lost the run of ourselves in Ireland. Whatever happened to the candle in the window? – Yours, etc,
ANTOINETTE
DWYER,
