Sir, - The students who marched to Dail Eireann last week demanded, among other things, a £65 million investment in purpose-built student accommodation. In Dublin alone, according to the president of DIT students' union (October 26th), 50,000 third level students are competing for a finite number of houses in the private rented sector.

I agree that there is a huge problem here and that one answer would be to invest in purpose-built accommodation. Another would be to decentralise some third-level education, particularly at undergraduate level, from Dublin to the regions, where I am sure there is plenty of good accommodation available at reasonable prices. - Yours, etc.,
