Sir, – As a school guidance counsellor who has worked with distressed adolescents for 40 years, I cannot begin to articulate my frustration at your news report on the Government's proposed "Connecting for Life" suicide prevention strategy ("New suicide prevention strategy to focus on schools", June 15th).
Having taken every last cent (€32 million) from the school guidance counselling service, the only mental health service available on a daily basis to every adolescent in every secondary school in the country, the Government now offers a “strategy” to reduce suicide among young people but with no resources to support it.
Putting words on paper and holding press conferences do not save lives. – Yours, etc,
ARTHUR DUNNE,
