Madam, - What a pleasure to go shopping at Superquinn in Limerick and find that the staff in the aisles can understand what your query is, the staff at the tills speaking English, Irish style, and you can have a little banter and a discourse on the weather.
At Tesco recently I asked three of the aisle staff for directions to the raisins and sultanas section but none understood me although one was close; he sent me to the bran flakes.
Similarly, at Dunnes I had to ask two aisle staff before another realised that smoked salmon was fish.
I don't believe I am a prejudiced person but surely supermarkets (and other stores) should ensure that their staff at the customer face have a modicum of English.
It's a pity that Superquinn is at the opposite side of the city to me as otherwise it would have most of my custom in appreciation of the store keeping a substantial proportion of jobs available for local people to whom one can relate. - Yours, etc,
CHARLES QUAID, Mount Carmel, Dooradoyle, Co Limerick.
