SUPERVISION IN SCHOOLS

Sir, - Supervisors with no teaching qualifications are being offered a rate of €34

Sir, - Supervisors with no teaching qualifications are being offered a rate of €34.28 an hour for supervision in Second-Level schools, while experienced part-time teachers who are paid at the part-time hourly rate receive only €26.08 an hour to teach students up to Honours Leaving Certificate level. This clearly highlights the inadequacies of teachers' pay and the exploitation of these teachers.

Why should fully qualified teachers who find themselves in this situation continue to teach in the same school as supervisors on a wage that is 25 per cent less per hour?

Surely this necessitates an immediate withdrawal of service by the teachers concerned. Any teacher who continues to work with such conditions of pay must have very low self-esteem and no sense of self-worth. - Yours, etc.,

MÁIRE NIC RAGHNAILL,
